Wow. Nice writing. Really hooked me into reading the whole article. The whole homeless issue is a tough one, but this is a really sincere take on what it's like to be on "the other side" of it.

Very well written.

Dear Meg Worden,
What a letter! I have a family member ending her 90 day eval. and soon facing the unkown. We try to write to her often, she responds often too. She is an amazing person, and like you, is making the best of a really really bad situation. She writes upbeat stories of the goings on there, her bunkies, and the people that have been in contact with her. We are afraid that the people that PRE-READ everything, and evaluate her think she may not be taking this time seriously. She has lost alot as you know. Her State job, her ambition of being a Realtor after all the classes and training, her right to vote, her money,car,home....all to attorney's etc. She has managed to keep her love of life, her wonderful personality, comedic wit, and drive to excel in any of her endeavors. She has alot of respect of alot of people, family and friends. I want to thank you for the insight of your ordeal and soooo glad you are with your son, your outlook on life is beautiful and so are you. Pam Bolf, New Mexico.

Holy shit... Normally online I just skim through articles, pick up the jist of the whole thing. But this one was different. I was a dirty kid for about a year and a half. This is a great article. Thanks.

I think this is terribly sad, although utterly typical. As soon as we enter a medical institution, our full, rich lives become reduced to a series of illnesses, each often compartmentalised and treated in isolation and our most basic needs, like food or toileting or personal hygiene can become problematic for all involved. It's a shame that the notion of wholistic care is only ever really given lip service.

Great story!
